(How I Came to Paint)
I dreamed of painting my mind
Image and infinity vast intertwined
I dreamed of painting my heart
But the powers that be denied me art
They said I couldn’t and so I couldn’t
Which turned to wouldn’t and soon to shouldn’t
Until I grew to odd to hear “forbid”
One day, unbidden, I just went and did
Not pigment, ink, clay or rhyme
Unbound by words or walls or time
Ideas bloom open to reveal
Conceptions whose dreaming flow is real
My pictured poems with rainbows write
And I’m dancing with a voice of light
